Avgoustiatis, a nearly extinct grape variety!

A very old, indigeneous to Greece, red grape variety which up until very recently was only grown in extremely limited plantations on the west of Peloponese and in Zakynthos. It was one of those grapes known mainly to old vinegrowers of the region and were heading towards extinction. Avgoustiatis was named after August, the month of abundance, when its grapes reach perfect maturity and take on a deep red color.

In 2017, Patriotis Winery decided to bring Avgoustiatis to Crete and let it take roots in our Mavropila vineyard at Vouves. To grow and thrive with our care under the cool breeze of the Cretan Sea. The result? Overexceeding our expectations. An elegant single varietal dry red wine Avgoustiatis with intense red fruit flavours, velvety structure and pronounced acidity. And let the games begin…!
